How Brightspace is helping Ontario Teachers- Brightspace impact on Ontario teachers and students

All K-12 public school teachers in Ontario have access to Brightspace as part of a provincial virtual Learning Environment. A few of those teachers shared how they’re using the LMS and what they love about it. D2L and the Ministry of Education have an 11-year partnership, with the goal of supporting technology-enabled learning in Ontario. Every school board in Ontario has a Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching (TELT) contact, who support teachers using Brightspace. If you’re an Ontario teacher, contact your school board to learn more about your TELT contact and how they can help. You can also check out the Brightspace Community. For useful teaching and learning resources, you can also subscribe to our blog, by clicking “subscribe” and entering your email address.

Gwinnett County Public Schools – Success with district-wide digital learning initiative

In a recent survey by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, 93% of teachers responded that they now use some type of digital technology to teach. Teachers are increasingly experimenting with digital technologies as a way to enable learning strategies, such as adaptive learning, and are engaging with students online to assign web-based projects, provide feedback, and offer interventions. Gwinnett County Public Schools is a school district operating in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The largest school district in Georgia, with 134 schools serving more than 176,000 students, Gwinnett County Public Schools embarked several years ago on an ambitious digital learning initiative to transform instruction and learning inside and outside of its classrooms through blended learning.

Hamilton Wentworth District School Board – A flexible learning platform gives all students access to enriched resources

The only downside of teachers at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) loving their new Web 2.0 tools was that they loved a very wide variety of them. They all had different usernames, passwords, and URLs. While the Board used a standardized blogging platform built in-house, they were also branching out in different areas to use different Learning Management System (LMS) tools. That meant they were unable to support one another and, since they were being hosted in a variety of spaces, it was next to impossible for the Board to provide guidance.

London District Catholic School Board – Teachers become the students

Through an agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Education, Brightspace is available to school boards across the province to support online and blended learning programs. The London District Catholic School Board (LDCSB) is one board taking full advantage of the program and is now extending its use of Brightspace to leverage the Learning Management System (LMS) for the delivery of professional learning curriculum to staff, teachers, and principals.

Gwinnett Online Campus – An inviting and engaging online learning experience

Gwinnett Online Campus (GOC) is the oldest online educational program in the state of Georgia. The school began serving students in 2009. In 2010, it adopted Brightspace as its learning platform. In the fall of 2011, GOC became a full-time charter school. They now serve over 5,000 students through full-time and supplemental programs.[1]
